New Volunteer Advocates Sworn In by CASA for Douglas County

Omaha, NE – Thursday, November 6 – CASA for Douglas County, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advocating for the best interests of children impacted by the child welfare system, proudly welcomed nine new Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) and one new Board of Directors member, Andréa Subitoni Antonio, during a swearing-in ceremony held at its Omaha headquarters. The ceremony was officiated by the Honorable Candice J. Novak, Judge of the Separate Juvenile Court of Douglas County.

These dedicated community members have completed extensive training to serve as Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs), standing up for the best interests of children involved in the child welfare system. As appointed officers of the court, CASA Volunteers provide critical advocacy to help children have their voices amplified.

During the ceremony, Executive Director Kimberly C. Barnes shared an inspiring message for the new advocates, stating, “I have three goals for our Volunteer Advocates: lean into your passion for child advocacy, recognize your purpose, and be compassionate with achieving permanency.”

Judge Novak commended the volunteers for their commitment, saying, “CASA is life-changing for children who have been traumatized. They are the consistent person who helps to heal, grow, and develop.”

Each newly sworn-in Volunteer Advocate will be matched with a child or sibling group in Douglas County’s foster care system, offering stability, hope, and a voice during a critical time in their lives. CASA for Douglas County continues to recruit and train volunteers to meet the growing need for advocacy.
